RESORT AMENITIES
Garden Island Resort is a two-storey
oceanside hotel with 15 rooms upstairs and 15 rooms downstairs. There is
an ocean-view restaurant and bar located poolside just feet from the water's
edge. Below is a description of amenities and services available at the Resort
(listed in alphabetical order). For information on our PADI Scuba Diving
Facilities, please see our Diving section.
Baby Sitting
Reliable and friendly babysitters can be
arranged for a small fee with advanced notice.
Banking
There is one bank in Taveuni. the National Bank
of Fiji is located in the Somosomo Village, approximately 3 miles from
Garden Island Resort. The bank is open Monday - Friday, closed Saturday
and Sunday. Foreign currency and travelers checks can also be exchanged at
the Resort's Front Desk. A FHA percentage surcharge applies to all resort
transactions.
Bar
The
Tagimoucia Bar is open from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. HAPPY HOUR is
from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The locally famous Garden Island Resort Band
plays nightly from 6-10:00 p.m. Bring their sounds home with you by purchasing their CD
or Cassette from our Boutique
Boutique
Garden Island
Resort's boutique carries a variety of traditional and locally made handicrafts.
There is a wide range of gift items as well as convenience items and toiletries.
Business Services
Email can be sent by the front desk
staff. Services also include facsimile and photocopying, and mail can be
left at the Front Desk for posting.
Catering
Birthday or
other special occasion cakes can be prepared in our kitchen or ordered in.
Please check with Management.
Check-in/Check-out
times
Guests may check into rooms at 2:00 p.m., however if the room
is ready, check in can be earlier. Check out time is 10:00 a.m. However,
guests may stay later at no charge as long as no one is due to check into
the room that day.
Church Services
There is a beautiful
church located a few miles from the Resort. Visitors to Fiji are welcome
to attend the local church services. The singing is wonderful!
Credit Cards
The Resort accepts American Express,
Mastercard and Visa. We regret that we cannot provide cash advances.
Dress Code
Light and comfortable clothing is in order
throughout Fiji. We do, however, ask that you respect the customs and
traditions of the Fijian people and avoid skimpy clothing outside the
Resort.
Drinking Water
Drinking water in Fiji is
treated, however Garden Island Resort has their own water filtration
system on the property. Bottled water is also available to purchase from
the bar.
Electric Current
Throughout Fiji the electrical
current is 240 volts/50 cycles. The Resort supplies its own 24-Hour (220v)
generator power. A few plug adapters and voltage converters to suit 110v
appliances are available for loan at the Boutique.
Honeymoons & Weddings
A
beautiful traditional Fijian wedding ceremony and reception can be
arranged. Please inquire with us for more details.

Hospital Service
There is a well-equipped hospital
situated at the top of the hill in Waiyevo, just a few minutes from the
Resort.
Laundry
A laundry service is available for a
small fee. Hand-washing may be done in the ironing room on the second
floor.
Pool
The Resort has a main swimming pool and a
small kiddie pool located just feet away from the water's edge. Lounge
chairs are situated so guests can relax while overlooking the Somosomo
Strait. There are no lifeguards on duty.
Restaurant
The
Drodrolagi restaurant features fine local and international cuisine with
fresh local produce, meats, poultry and seafood. Our menu also offers at
least one vegetarian entree at each meal. Restaurant hours are from 7:00
a.m. to 9:30 a.m. for breakfast, 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for lunch, and
7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for dinner.
Shopping/Nightlife
There are only necessity stores located in the nearby town
of Somosomo. Nightlife is confined to the resort in the form of Happy Hour
and nightly entertainment by our very own Garden Island Resort band.
Telephone Calls
Each room has a direct-dial telephone.
There is also a Public Telephone. Phone cards can be purchased at Front
Desk, as available.
Tipping
Tipping is not customary in
Fiji. Individual tipping is discouraged. We have a Staff Fund box at the
Front Desk if you would like to contribute. There is another located at
the Dive Center specifically for dive staff. Gratuities are most
appreciated and distributed to all staff (including those with whom you
have less contact, such as maintenance, laundry and kitchen) at Christmas
time.
Transportation
Taxi or bus is the main form of
transportation on Taveuni. There are no car rental services.
